lyrics

WATCHING FROM AFAR

You can all leave I will remain
Far from the ignorant parade
Of bigoted views that some choose
As their refrain
If you think you're better off
Cutting yourselves off
From openness and hope
Then I think you're wrong
Opportunists have won again
Vying for power at number ten
Preying on fears and drinking beers
With their old school friends

Watching from afar
I see too many people are
Taken in by lies and media brainwashing
There has to be a way to finally break the chains
Of fear, hate and nostalgia
All self-defeating

As a form of protest
Closing your mind is not the best
Blaming Johnny Foreigner
Is irrational
Patriotism is a curse
Nationalism's even worse
Brainwashed minds combine them
With xenophobia
If you're scared or short on hope
Don't give ex-traders the rope
To hang you out to dry
With lies and false hope

Watching from afar
I see too many people are
Taken in by lies and media brainwashing
There has to be a way to finally break the chains
Of fear, hate and nostalgia
All self-defeating

If it wasn't sad I'd laugh
Long and hard at how daft
And retrograde what some people say
And think is
That's democracy I'm afraid
Where voters get to have their say
Any Tom, Dick or Harriet
Can make their voices heard
But this isn't a fait accompli
So question everything you read
Or you'll end up bending the knee
To idiocracy

Watching from afar
I see too many people are
Taken in by lies and media brainwashing
There has to be a way to finally break the chains
Of fear, hate and nostalgia
All self-defeating

Watching from afar
I see too many people are
Taken in by lies and media brainwashing
There has to be a way to finally break the chains
Of fear, hate and nostalgia
All self-defeating

You can all leave I will remain
